Aslina, Cabernet Sauvignon, South Africa 2020

The 2020 iteration is as impressive as the woman herself – a dark and brooding wine, but with a generosity of fruit, poise, elegance and fantastic structure. The tannins are bold and chewy, but the rich, composed fruit character makes it approachable now – though with time enough ahead, too. 15% Petit Verdot in the blend contributes to the violet colour and the tannic structure, but the palate is undeniably Cabernet with Black Forest fruits and blackcurrant leaf,  alongside the classic cedar and cigar box notes. There’s a lick of classy French Oak, too, adding warming spice and wood smoke, then the finish is pure, long and refreshing. Drink now and on to 2033.
