Bodegas Felix Callejo, Parajes de Callejo, Ribera del Duero, 2020

Awarded Spanish winemakers of the year in 2021 by Tim Aitkin MW, the Callejo family are at the forefront of terroir specific wines in the Ribera del Duero. The Parajes de Callejo hails from high altitude (over 3000ft) Sotillo de la Ribera vineyards in the north of the region. The climate and calcareous limestone soils help produce a primary yet elegant Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) fruit with fine tannins. Balance is completed by the addition of a small quantity of the white Albillo Mayor grape and 18 months in large oak barrels, producing a wine which is simultaneously refined and characterful.
