Château Picoron, 'Le Bon Nobel', Bordeaux 2015

Bordeaux but not as we know it - this Australian led winery are producing wines outside of the appellation rules from the base of an ancient estate. Made from a single plot of Merlot (thus the Merle blackbird on the label) on the famous St Emillion ridge, the wine is both fermented and aged in barrel, spending 20 months in French oak. Full of typically earthy, plummy fruit and eminently quaffable, this wine is the prefect marriage of new world winemaking and Bordeaux terroir.
