Wine really doesn’t need to be that complicated!

This is our informal introduction to wine for anyone who enjoys drinking it, but would quite like to get past the ”I just know what I like” stage… because no one actually knows what that means.

No exams. No tests. No homework. Just three hours, five wines and plenty of conversation. And, if you participate and fancy a WSET course at a later date, you’ll get 10% off!

Over the course of the session we’ll taste five very different wines, covering a range of styles, and use them to learn how to actually taste wine (rather than simply drink it).

We’ll look at grapes, climate, place and winemaking without getting too bogged down in the technical stuff. What are you actually looking for when you taste? Where do all those flavours come from? Does expensive mean better? What exactly are tannins? And are there really rules about what you’re supposed to drink with what?

We’ll also cover some of the genuinely useful stuff: how to make sense of a restaurant wine list, what to look for when choosing a bottle, common pitfalls to avoid, the wine terminology actually worth knowing, and how to sound like you know what you’re talking about without becoming unbearable.

We’ll debunk a few wine myths along the way and leave plenty of time for questions. You can also send us questions beforehand — things you’ve always wanted to ask but felt you probably should already know — and we’ll tackle them in a Q&A.

The session is led by Must & Lees owner Chris Cassell, DipWSET and WSET educator. So while this very definitely isn’t a WSET course, you’ll be learning from someone who teaches them.

You’ll leave with an information sheet, branded tasting notes and, hopefully, a lot more confidence next time you’re choosing, ordering or simply drinking wine.
