Guardiani Farchione, Pecorino Superiore, Abruzzo 2021
It’s hard not to be poetic after visiting the Farchione winery. Nestled at the foot of three mountain ranges and bordering two national parks. Ovid, the Roman poet described the land as “the coldest and most fertile of thousands of waves”
Farchione boast five generations and more than a century of wine-making experience.
The 12 hectare estate is 360 meters above sea level dedicated to Abruzzo’s main native vines: Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Pecorino. Significant diurnal range, low yields ensure slow and consistent ripening. Elevage takes place in the family’s historic underground cellar.
The whites are bursting with ripe stone fruit while their reds offer dark cherries with a wonderful tannic structure thanks to that slow ripening on the vine.
