Voerzio Martini, 'Derthona' Timorasso, Colli Tortonesi, Piedmont 2020
The Timorasso grape is making a comeback in Piedmont having nearly died out by the 1980s. This fine example comes from vines over 1000ft altitude, grown in calcareous silty soil, producing a rich but high acidity wine which needs no oak to enhance its fruity notes. Some ultra-modern reductive winemaking adds complexity and also avoids the need for additional sulphites to protect the wine.
